Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is a spending tracker, and how is Otivo different from one?
A spending tracker (or expenses tracker) records and categorises what you spend so you can see where your money goes. Otivo does that automatically from your connected accounts, then uses the same information to give you licensed, personalised financial advice on what to do next, whether that is paying down a card, building savings or adding to super.
Is Otivo a budgeting app?
It does what a budget app does: an app to track spending automatically, sorted into categories, with subscriptions and recurring payments picked out for you. The difference is what happens next. Otivo is a licensed financial adviser, so the same numbers turn into personal advice on debt, saving and super. If you only want a quick manual budget, Otivo's free budget planner needs no account at all.
Which accounts can I connect?
You can connect everyday transaction accounts, savings accounts, credit cards and home loans from participating Australian banks through open banking.
Is it safe to connect my bank account to Otivo?
Otivo is licensed by ASIC (AFSL 485665), stores your data in Australia and encrypts it at rest and in transit. Connecting your accounts gives Otivo read-only access to your transactions. It cannot move money or make payments.
Does Otivo move my money or make payments?
No. Otivo reads and categorises your transactions to inform your advice. It does not initiate payments, transfers or any change to your accounts. If you want to act on advice, you do that with your bank or super fund.
Do I have to connect my accounts to use Otivo?
No. You can answer the questions manually and still get licensed advice. Connecting your accounts saves you the typing and gives Otivo a more accurate picture of your spending.
Can Otivo find subscriptions I've forgotten about?
Yes. Otivo scans your connected accounts for subscriptions and recurring payments, shows what each one costs per week, fortnight or month and which account it comes from, and adds them up as a monthly and yearly total, so the ones you no longer use stand out.
What can I ask Ask Otivo about my spending?
Anything you'd ask a person looking at your transactions: sort your spending from biggest to smallest, group it by category or by shop, compare this month with last, or ask for ways to spend less. Ask Otivo answers from your real, connected transactions.
Can I track daily spending?
Yes. Once your accounts are connected, new transactions are categorised as they arrive, so you can see daily spending as well as monthly totals.
Is connecting my accounts included in the free plan?
Yes. Connecting accounts and seeing your categorised spending are included in the Free plan. Unlimited advice is part of Digital and Adviser.
How do I disconnect an account?
You can disconnect any account from your Otivo settings at any time, and you can also withdraw consent through your bank. Otivo stops receiving new transactions as soon as you do.
